Follow tips from the traditional Vaastu Shastra diligently. Our Vaastu Shastris knew the proper way to bring love, luck and happiness to homes. Have a Vaastu-friendly Diwali this year:
1. Cleaning of your house is important as Diwali is supposed to enhance the power of the superior energies prevailing in our surrounding. If possible get it whitewashed or at least ensure that all the corners, cupboards and drawers are properly cleaned. All obstructions, or clutter should be removed from the house for free movement of positive energy. Use salt water to mop the floor as salt absorbs negativity from the surrounding. Remember, there should be no cobwebs and the locker or safe where money is kept should also be cleaned. Also keep the scientific reason of cleaning in mind - it’s a time for insects and fungus to breed, so cleaning is necessary.
2. Lighting up dark corners or brightening your home attracts positive energy. If there is stagnant or negative energy in some corners of your house, pay attention to such areas and light diyas or candles. On Diwali, light candles in all directions don’t worry about the right direction.
3. Welcome Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth by performing Lakshmi puja. You can establish a Lakshmi idol or Shree Yantra in the locker for good fortune. Remember that the puja diya should remain lit for the entire night of Diwali.
4. The Diwali day is very important from Vaastu angle. Rangolis are very auspicious as they bring in the positive ‘urja’. Hang auspicious ‘torans’ at the entrance to welcome positive energy.
5. Though crackers have been a part and parcel of Diwali, there use should be minimized and as they cause a lot of pollution. Instead you could donate that money to a poor family and bring joy to their home on this festival of lights.
